COM (Computer Output
to Microfilm) INPUT

Digital files held on disk or tape can be downloaded in house or through a Service Centre to provide FBI sources for the CDA.

A  In-House

The flexible types of equipment available make data archiving on demand a reality. They provide a fast, easy, inexpensive way to convert virtually all of today's digital file formats into microimages on film. With high resolution, fast throughput and complete flexibility, these machines supply a real solution to the biggest challenge in archiving: technological obsolescence!

They can accommodate the following digital inputs:

TIFF CCITT Groups 3&4
JPEG
Uncompressed Grey Scale or PDF
Vector - HPGL
Vector - Gerber
Bar codes, Logos, Symbols
Postsript Levels 1, 2, 3
Alphanumeric - ASCII or EBCDIC
Many other Digital Formats

The FBI records produced by an in-house COM can be to any format required by the CDA. Image quality can be between 200 and 6,000dpi and records raster, alphanumeric, vector, bitonal, halftone and greyscale (256 shades)

B  COM Service Centre

These organisations create COM images using the latest technology, thus enabling COM output to replicate the current print presentation techniques and image requirements, for example AFP and Xerox as well as standard 3211 line data. Their COM systems can be configured to receive input off line via magnetic tape, on line via data transmission or local area network.
