Here at Genus, we strive to do our best to lessen our impact on the environment. From the installation of 180 solar panels on our roof generating 33,500 KWh of solar electricity on average per year since their instalment in 2014, our Green Initiative (Which you can read more about here) to the carbon balancing of our fleet of 8 vehicles with the assistance of Tree-V which we have renewed yet again, Genus like to do our best towards being as ecologically considerate as we can.
That is why those who visit us for a chat about digitising their collection at the Museum and Heritage Show at Olympia in London will be offered some accessories to help further our sustainability. Here is what you can expect from the event. Read all about the extras below!
Did you know an estimated 500 billion disposable, often non-recyclable coffee cups are produced globally per year? That’s enough to wrap around the earth 1360 times. Our reusable cups will help diminish that number, one espresso at a time! The cup is made with stainless, food grade steel and bamboo, with a durable plastic lid. It is certified as BPA free and helps us cut down on single-use plastics. Our supplier is committed to preventing pollution and making constant updates to their own procedures, equipment, and policies to make sure that their operations are as ecologically sound and responsible, having achieved carbon neutral status in 2008 at both their factory and their office.
A reusable fabric bag is one of the easiest ways to help counter the use of single use plastic carrier bags. Our bags come from a supplier with full ethical providence, GOTS approval and Fairtrade certification. Printed in Sheffield, the company comes with full SEDEX certification to ensure that the labour force behind making our bags at every stage is approved in all four pillars: labour rights, health & safety, the environment and business ethics.
Every little bit helps when it comes to ecological sustainability, and here at Genus we are proud to do our part. Even our brochure material can be fully recycled when you are done!
Our Digitisation and Microfilm solutions can help your organisation take those steps too, meaning that your clients or your staff can access those documents digitally from anywhere in the world, removing the need for your staff to commute and for your clients to travel to see your collections. It also has the extra bonus of protecting your valuable original documents from wear and tear, as only the digital versions are used for access.
We are also excited to announce our collaboration with Deepstore, the UK’s premier below-ground storage facility. Located 150m below the Cheshire countryside in purpose-built repositories, the consistent, ambient conditions of the salt mine make it not only perfect for archival storage, but has the added benefit of naturally being incredibly secure.
